Watching Calgary Flames Implode In High Definition

Thanks for the post, Bernard Vasquez

What is going on with the Calgary Flames? I love watching hockey in high definition on TV By Direct, but even the crispest picture can't provide any clarity to what is going wrong with this team. It's not like they don't have talent. They were projected, and still should be, somewhere in the upper portion of the Western Conference, if they could just play as well as they are capable of playing.

But these aren't just losses that the Flames are experiencing. These are complete collapses, unbelievable and catastrophic implosions on a scale rarely seen even from the worst teams. They were up 2-1 over the Washington Capitals at the end of the first period, only to give up 6 goals, yes, 6, in a loss. They've become a team that gives up goals by the handful, and seemingly with no way to stop the bleeding. They went from looking like a solid team to suddenly looking like they had no idea how to play hockey.

But I don't fault the players. I have a saying, if things are bad at the bottom in an organization, they are bad at the top. The issue, as I see it, is the horrible coaching decisions being made by Brent Sutter, who accepts none of the blame and continuously throws his own players under the bus. It's no wonder his team won't listen to him anymore.
