What's my breakfast like?

During the week I only go for a very quick ready to made frozen breakfast where I popped it into the microwave and for 2 minutes it's ready to eat. It's convenient to have it when I am in a rush in the morning. It could be nice if I can make my own fresh breakfast but it's time consuming to be up early and cook.

On the weekend, I do cook fresh. I always have bacon, eggs and orange juice. Sometimes I paired with a half bagel and cream cheese. I am trying not to eat the whole bagel. The size of the meal can lasts me for a whole day.

Argentina corned Beef

I grow up eating corned beef in the morning. My mom usually prepare breakfast for us. It's unforgettable for me that I have such a kind warming mom who took really good care of us. She loves to cook and I miss her cooking very much.

Yesterday, I got the time to cook the can corned beef which I had bought early this year. Imagine the patience to not cook it that fast. It is because it is not easy to find such a brand here and most american corned beef I tasted it's not the same like what I am used to.

Anyway, I had Argentina Corned beef from Philippines. I cooked it with garlic, onion and tomato. It's good but I think what I remember when I was young was the that there is still another brand that has more flavor than Argentina. Next visit, I will going to find that brand that I really get fond of. For now, what I have is good enough.

Baking

If I were to compare between baking and cooking, I would prefer to bake than to cook. For me baking is just simple. Follow the instructions of every baking recipes you could get and that's it. Whereas with cooking, your palate has to be tested. You need to find it in order you could cook a good meal. I have a difficult experience on this but eventually I find my own palate. I am no way a very good cook but I am learning. All the food I cook are edible. It's just sometimes I want perfection and for me what I am doing is not really great. Someday when constant practice it can be possible.
For this post, I would introduce baking on a ready made brownies from Ghirardelli. This is the 3rd box out of the 3 different brands that I was trying to test. I was looking for a product which I could find one the best for my taste. I find this brand good than the others but maybe I will experiment with other brands too. For now, this is my choice. I love the taste and texture. Though maybe the outcome of this was a bit overcook so next time instead of cooking it as what the instructions is, I will cut off the minutes of its baking time. Maybe it could turn out perfect. Until then...

Cooking 2: Egg Drop Soup

As you may not know, I love soup. But not all soup that I like so it really depends on what kind it would be. As long as it's not fishy taste I will be fine. Back home at my moms, I grew up mostly having soup all the time. It's the local vege soup, pochero, and some clam.

This particular soup is mostly the kind of soup I would always look for if I would go in a Chinese restaurant. I remembered when I was a child, every wedding that I attend and most of them were held in a chinese place this soup is almost present on the lists. I always look forward to it every time my family and I are invited.

Today, I had cooked this for the very first time. And, I am happy because it ended up so good. Hubby did got to agree as well. from now on, I can always cook this whenever I want and now in my list is to buy more of this brand.

The very first brand that I bought at Savemart store. It just happened that I went to a section where I found this unexpectedly. It wasn't on my list when I did my grocery shopping but I decided to buy it and try it sometime. Which now I am happy because I got the best one.

One egg well beaten when the water is boiling. Have to stir it gradually.

Just a drop of soy sauce just for some color.

And, the finish product? this one, which is so good!

Picture Surprise

My very good friend Hazel got me a tag on what pictures do I have in my folders. I have so much pictures that I can't really tell which one was it. Good thing, I haven't transferred yet my pictures to a dvd. It's better with a DVD, more stuff to download than a regular cd.

Here are the rules:

1. Go to your Picture Folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures.
2. Go to the 6th Folder and then pick the 6th Picture.
3. Post it on your blog and tell the story that goes with the picture.
4. Tag 5 other glorious people to do the same thing and leave a comment on their blog telling them about it.
I took this picture Dec 7, 2007 at a small get together with friends in San Jose. It was a seafood food treat. This crab was so yummy that I could remember using my bare hands eating this. It made it more delicious. It was so good to think about some things you just took for granted.

I will just forward this to all my frequent visitors. Anyone of you can grab this.

Fish

I love to eat fish but in a certain way. I will not eat it if I know how it was cook of which not of my liking. I am not much fan of a stew. I remembered when I was younger, my mom pushed me to eat stew fish over the side of a rice. In the Philippines we eat simple. Not too elaborate dishes like here in the US. Whatever food that is served on the table it is good enough. We don't even consider the amount of calories or the mineral contents of the food as long as we have something to fill up our stomach. It's not about survival but it's just how simple life way back then.

As time goes on, palate change and did certainly crave for better and healthy food intake. I am not like a hundred person person go for healthy food but honestly I eat bad stuff. It's the bad stuff that is so yummy. How can you avoid that when it is so deliciously inviting?

Anyway, I just want to talk about today's day with hubby. He went out with his employee fishing at half moon bay. I had wished to go with him but it's an exclusive company outing so I was out of the picture. He told me that he caught a number of fish. I would say 10 in different sizes. I had cook some of them. Gush! It's so fresh. I avoid eating fish here due to what I get from the food market which is frozen. The freshness of the fish is gone so I no longer eat it. But today, hubby caught with labor and he knows I love fresh seafood. He brought it with him. Below here is the picture I took. I deep fried it with salt, pepper and garlic power. I dip it with soy sauce and lemon over stem rice. I love my dinner tonight. Simple but the fish is so good.

Santana Row with Peachie

It was a great day in a sunny good weather. Peachie called me 45 minutes before she picked me up at my place. She arrived at 12:15pm parked at the curb across our apartment complex. She greeted me outside of her car, we embraced ourselves and went inside. I saw her husband John and said our Hi's and Hello's. I gave the address where we will be having our lunch together and we dined in at Super Buffet. Peachie and her husband loves seafood so I treated them with that. I was hoping they liked it and indeed told me they did. We took a lot of things inside the restaurant. Our first chance to meet. We had a great time talking until we went outside to walk, window shopping, taking pictures at Santana Row and Westfield Valley Fair. My time with them was precious in a way I've learned things from them and they are just great people to hang out with. I am hoping to get another time with them in the future.

The most hate Food

When I was a child I am an eater. But I am not so much with candies. I go for real food like eating rice with some meat. I recall my old time favorite was the sliced "puso" the hanging rice where the "ginaling" ground pork with some peas, red bell pepper, onion and other mild spices was placed in the middle. My "nanay" Elen at recess time would brought me this. It was my delight to get full with some real food not junk foods.

I don't know if anyone of you had that experience or was it a time you saw that the hanging rice was made into a sandwhich. In my childhood days, it was popular. If the rice could be a bun, you could imagine it that way. There is a meat in the middle and you just eat it that way.

My mom loves to cook food. She's a really good cook. Everyone likes her menus and the way she cooked the food. But there is just one thing that I wasn't fun of. Having stew fish on my plate. I don't like the smell of the fish. I remember my mom was so mad at me. She pushed me to ate it but I ended up vomiting or spitting it. The rest of my brothers were all loving it but me I never like it. Until this very day, I carry that over.

Today, my co-worker Liz brought some lunch. I don't know what food was that but she smells so fishy. I almost wanted to spray cologne all over my desk to get rid of the smell but I don't want to offend her. I just didn't mind it seriously but it really stinks. In my mind that time, I had my recollection on the experience I had with my mom and it reminds me of how terrible the feeling was. When I logged out from work, I kept my distance far from smelling her and I just said goodbye.

Some task

I tried hard to make myself busy at work though I felt so sleepy. I visit my boss at his office for another talk and ask if he needs my help. He asked me whether I am already decided on what will I like to do that I think can be of help to the office and told him about having the responsibility to take payments from car donations. He said it’s a good idea to be the second person to auto donation and he will teach me how soon.

He gave me another task today to send a congratulations letter for 10 people who won for the clothing drive of the whole organization. So I need to do it fast and easy. He told me if I will be using mail merge. I went blank but told him no. I just do it conventionally with excel or manually do it by MS Word. He offered some help to teach me how. I am thrilled to new about it. Both of us are learning the ways on how to do it in MS 2007. New format and new lay out. It was a good thing to have him with me working.

After I did my work and satisfied my boss at the job, I went food shopping. I went to Saversmart in Kiely. It’s just few minutes away from home. It took like 30minutes to do some little shopping and came home to do some chores.

Right now, I am waiting for hubby to get us some food. We will have some pizza for tonight. I didn’t cook tonight as I thought I could do it but my being lazy got me into a trapped. Hubby is flexible and pizza from Vito’s is not a problem. It’s a New York style and we both love it. Until then, catch you up later.

Hunts Pork & Beans

I had a dinner with my husband outside. We had both barbecue ribs with some salad, and side of baked potato, rice pilaf and baked beans. The latter made me think my childhood fond memories. The house that I grow up is just at the back of my grandparent’s house. It used be to a 3 door apartment. As a kid, I would love to visit my folks all the time especially they have this small grocery store. That time we called it ‘Sari-sari’ store. I gave them a hand at the store and rewarded me with food instead of candies or money.

If I was asked what my preference, Hunts pork & beans. Sound familiar or maybe not. If you are not from Asia, it is like Campbell’s brand. The taste is a bit different and I better like Hunts. Recently, my vacation trip in Asia got me to have my old time favorite. In Hongkong at the corner right next to the hotel where I stayed, there is a restaurant called Frying pan. It is at the 3rd floor. I had it every day and I can always remember how I loved it.

It is so good to recall back the memories. The bad thing was I forgot to bring some here in the US. I bought some when I had my chance in Cebu. Unluckily with the bad planning, it was left behind. Oh well, I hope I can stocked some if I could go back again.

A DaY WeLL SpEnt

Hubby and I spend our morning at home relaxing. I made a breakfast for us and we ate together. We missed to have that and I can only do that every weekend. From the time I started to work, I spend my morning alone and prepare something for myself. I can only bid him with a kiss either in bed or when he wakes up early.

Some days ago he asked me to spend quality time and his looking forward to it over the weekend. It was a great idea and I granted his wish wholeheartedly. He is a very thoughtful guy and he always makes sure he can spend more time with me as possible. The weekday schedule is quite busy for us and the time to spend when we are off from work is something that needs to nourish.

We are on our 2nd year in marriage. The time to fritter should be worth it to make the relationship sturdy. He doesn’t want us to be distant to each other. He looks up to the consequence of the marriage. And by no means wouldn’t squander the time by an uneventful ways.

We drove to highway 92 passed the beautiful hills and scenery and stopped at the beach in Poplar St, Half Moon Bay. Got out from the car, walked to the edge of the hill, oversee the picturesque view of the bay, heard the splash of the waves and the medium sound chills from the wind. We just stood there up on the hill didn’t walked barefoot down to the shore but it was a moment to spare with an alluring thoughts.

We left the place to look for food, ate at Popeyes and safely get back to home. Relaxed a little bit, made to think of seeing a movie. Browsed the internet and read reviews and arrived at AMC Mercado in Mission and watched the “Vantage Point”. It was a great movie. Filled with plotting scene and you keep on guessing who is the terrorist. I just don’t like the way the scene were divided by each character. It bore me parts in the middle but the last scene was touchy. It took us an hour and a half in the theatre, home at last and ate ice cream sundae from Mcdo and finishing up this writing. Until next time.
